The Persians of the UES

Persian Rug Cleaning on the Upper East Side.

The Upper East Side holds more antique Persians per block than almost any neighborhood in the country. Park Avenue classic-sixes, Fifth Avenue floor-throughs, Madison Avenue townhouses, the brownstones of Lenox Hill and Carnegie Hill — pre-war co-ops with parquet floors that have held the same rugs through three generations. Workshop Tabriz in the formal room. Antique Kashan in the library. Silk Hereke in the primary bedroom. A Sarouk that came up from a great-aunt's apartment in 1976.

Pre-war buildings run on steam radiators, and the rugs nearest the convector grilles see the worst of the indoor climate cycle. Every Persian we accept from a UES address is dye-tested, washed individually with pH-balanced soap, and dried flat. Silk Herekes are washed alone, never alongside wool. Vegetable-dyed antiques get the slower antique wash. We coordinate with doormen and building staff, and the same artisans who collect the rug are the ones who return it.

What We Do, By Hand
  • Antique Tabriz and Kashan for pre-war floors
  • Silk Hereke pieces washed alone
  • Aubusson-on-Persian-foundation conservation
  • Dye-bleed correction on radiator-side rugs
  • Foundation repair on heirloom Sarouk
  • Doorman and building-staff coordination
From The Upper East Side To Our Atelier

How a Persian rug moves through our atelier.

Seven to fourteen days, calibrated to the age, fiber, and dyes of your rug.

01

We collect from the Upper East Side.

Complimentary pickup across Park Avenue, Madison Avenue, Lenox Hill, Carnegie Hill, Yorkville, and the East 60s through 90s. We coordinate with doormen and building staff and wrap your Persian inside the apartment — pre-war classic six, Park Avenue duplex, or Madison Avenue townhouse.

02

Dye-tested, hand-washed alone.

Every Persian is inspected and every color dye-tested before water touches the rug. Antique Tabriz, Kashan, and silk Hereke pieces are washed individually with pH-balanced soap and temperature-controlled water — never in a batch, never on a machine.

03

Dried flat, returned home.

Dried flat on slatted frames — never tumbled, never hung. Hand-finished, wrapped, and returned to your Upper East Side residence in better condition than the day it left.

Common Questions

Questions, honestly answered.

What clients ask us before they hand over a rug — and how we answer.

How is Persian rug cleaning done on rugs from the Upper East Side?
Every Persian is hand-washed on our dedicated Westchester atelier floor. We inspect the fibers, foundation, dyes, and any prior repairs, then dye-test every color before water touches the rug. Antique Persians and silks are washed individually with pH-balanced soap and temperature-controlled water, then dried flat on slatted frames. Hand-finished and returned to your UES residence.
How long does Persian rug cleaning take after pickup from the Upper East Side?
A standard hand-wash takes seven to fourteen days from the date we collect your rug. Heavily soiled antique Persians, dye-bleed correction, silk-Hereke conservation, or oriental rug restoration work (reweaving, fringe binding, foundation repair) typically takes three to six weeks. Every rug gets the time it needs — we never rush a piece to meet a machine's schedule.
